BLACK-HANDED SPIDER MONKEY

A spider monkey is true to it's name, for it is indeed a true monkey.  It has a tail, and it's no ordinary tail, this tail is so strong it can be considered to be a fifth arm/leg.  It is long(about 2ft in length in adults) and quite narrow with 23 vertebreae, which would explain its strength!  This appendage can be used to go where no other spider monkey has gone before, or at the least any other arm/leg.

PHYLOGENY

The spider monkies' phylogeny or family history is as follows:

Kingdom; Animalia

Phylum: Chordata

Class:  Mammalia

Order:  Primata

Family:  Cebidae

Genus:  Ateles

Species:  geoffroyi

APPEARENCE

The monkey's appearence is composed of coarse and stringy hair, yellowish-gray to dark brown to possibly black in color with golden sides and a whitish of yellow underside.  There are white markings on the face , and the hands and feet are black, hence black-handed spider monkey.

This amazing creature can be found in Southern Mexico to Northern Columbia.  Their habitat consists of both lowland and mountainous rain forests, in which they dwell in the topmost branches of tall trees.  These spectacular spiders eat mostly fruits, along with nuts, flowers, insects and eggs, all of which they consume primarily in the morning.
